Mission
Recode (then CDI, Comitê para a Democratização da Informática) was founded in 1995 as a pioneering initiative to promote the democratization of access to information technologies for residents of communities in Rio de Janeiro. With the support of companies and volunteers who embraced the cause of digital inclusion, the organization opened the first Computer and Citizenship Schools in various socially vulnerable communities in Rio de Janeiro.
Over time, the organization expanded its scope of action and began to dedicate itself to bringing digital empowerment to individuals in various countries through a network of partner organizations.
It’s been 29 years of constant transformation in which the organization has always been able to adapt to the external context and changes in society.
Current technology use
Recode primarily uses technology to teach technology. They play an important role in bridging the digital divide. They have a mechanism to train "hubs" that decentralize their effort and empower local organizations.
Public notes
